First world war postcard - a photo on Flickriver

            I picked this up at an antique fair today. I was prepared to go as high as four or five pounds, but I assumed they'd ask something like ten to start. When I asked the woman behind the table how much she wanted, she shrugged and said, "50p?", as if even that was probably a bit much. 

Excellent.

It was written by a woman called Maggie, who lived in London, just south of the Thames, near Battersea park. She sent it to either her husband - or, perhaps, her brother - who had just been sent to fight in France. 

Here's what it says:

Tuesday - How do you like this card.

My dearest Frank.

Just a cheery line hoping this will find you well as I am pleased to say it leaves me fine. We are having some nice weather. 

I heard from mother, they were disappointed not seeing [you] so my ma is going down home this next weekend. It will be a little change. 

Hope you are getting settled down by this time. Remember me to Mrs Horton. I heard from her + she is home now. 

Pleased to say Horace was well when we last heard. Have you heard from Fred since he has been back in France. Perhaps you may come across him. 

Clara [?] children have been poorly so mother tells me, but are a little better. 

I am taking care of your cards + will take them down home + let mother put them all together if I run down, which I hope to before the summer over. 

Well, I will write again shortly.
