Sharp-tailed grouse / Tétras à queue fine

Emblème aviaire de la Saskatchewan, le tétras à queue fine peut se rassembler en de groupes considérables afin de pratiquer leurs rituels de reproduction.  Dans les prairies, des « arènes » d’une cinquantaine d’individus peuvent parfois être observés. Sur une autre note, saviez-vous que les prairies sont l’écosystème le plus en péril de la planète? En Amérique du Nord, il ne resterait seulement que 1% des prairies d’herbes haute et de 20 à 30% des prairies d’herbe mixte et d’herbe courte combinées principalement à cause de l’agriculture moderne.

Saskatchewan's provincial bird the Sharp-tailed Grouse can congregate in large groups to practice their breeding rituals. Leks of about fifty individuals can sometimes be observed in the grasslands. On another note, did you know that grasslands are the most endangered ecosystem on the planet? In North America, only 1% of tall grass prairies and 20-30% of mixed grass and short grass prairies remains mainly because of modern agriculture.
