La giraffa è un mammifero africano, il più alto animale terrestre vivente e il più grande ruminante. Le loro caratteristiche distintive sono il collo e le gambe estremamente lunghi e i suoi distintivi motivi di mantello. La loro diffusione è sparsa e  si estende dal Ciad a nord al Sud Africa a sud e dal Niger a ovest alla Somalia a est. Le giraffe abitano abitualmente savane e boschi. La loro fonte di cibo sono foglie, frutti e fiori di piante legnose, principalmente specie di acacia, mangiando ad altezze che la maggior parte degli altri erbivori non riesce a raggiungere. La giraffa ha incuriosito varie culture, sia antiche che moderne, per il suo aspetto peculiare, ed è stata spesso descritta in dipinti, libri e cartoni animati. È classificato dall'Unione internazionale per la conservazione della natura come vulnerabile all'estinzione.

The giraffe is an African mammal, the tallest living terrestrial animal, and the largest ruminant. Their distinguishing characteristics are its extremely long neck and legs and its distinctive coat patterns.  Its scattered range extends from Chad in the north to South Africa in the south, and from Niger in the west to Somalia in the east. Giraffes usually inhabit savannahs and woodlands. Their food source is leaves, fruits, and flowers of woody plants, primarily acacia species, which they browse at heights most other herbivores cannot reach. The giraffe has intrigued various cultures, both ancient and modern, for its peculiar appearance, and has often been featured in paintings, books, and cartoons. It is classified by the International Union for Conservation of Nature as vulnerable to extinction.
