The Castle Broock!

            ENG: The castle called Broock Manor House is situated in the Broock district of the same name in the municipality of Alt Tellin in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald. It is located at the southern edge of the Tollensetal lowlands, halfway between the Vorpommern towns of Demmin and Altentreptow and close to the Autobahn 20 and the Sternfeld railway station.

The village of Broock was originally a knightly fiefdom. It goes back to a former castle complex directly on the Tollense, which is called "Schlossberg" and is still recognizable as a ground monument. Here was the second one next to the river crossing between Demmin and Klempenow, which still exists today at the castle east. From the 15th century to 1652 the Haus zum Broock (Bruch), together with other villages, was a fief of the noble Buggenhagen family, which belonged to the castle-owning families of Pomerania.  Broock was considered a popular social meeting place in the 19th century and was known for its horse breeding. The building, vacant since 1980, is in need of renovation. A local alliance was formed in 2014 to preserve the site.

GER: Das Schloss Broock genannte Herrenhaus liegt im gleichnamigen Ortsteil Broock der Gemeinde Alt Tellin im Landkreis Vorpommern-Greifswald. Es befindet sich am südlichen Rand der Niederung des Tollensetals, auf halber Strecke zwischen den vorpommerschen Städten Demmin und Altentreptow und nahe der Autobahn 20 und dem Bahnhof Sternfeld.

Der Ort Broock war ursprünglich ein ritterschaftliches Lehen. Er geht zurück auf eine ehemalige Burganlage unmittelbar an der Tollense, die als „Schlossberg“ bezeichnet wird und noch als Bodendenkmal erkennbar ist. Hier befand sich der zweite neben dem bei der Burg Osten heute noch existierende Flussübergang zwischen Demmin und Klempenow. Vom 15. Jahrhundert bis 1652 war das Haus zum Broock (Bruch) zusammen mit weiteren Dörfern ein Lehen der adligen Familie Buggenhagen, die zu den schlossgesessenen Geschlechtern Pommerns gehörte.  Broock galt als beliebter gesellschaftlicher Treffpunkt im 19. Jahrhundert und war für seine Pferdezüchtungen bekannt. Das seit 1980 leerstehende Gebäude ist sanierungsbedürftig. Für den Erhalt der Anlage hat sich 2014 ein lokales Bündnis zusammengeschlossen.
