Contract Square (Контрактова площа) in Podil, Kyiv (Kiev). My final shot from Ukraine.

The square has been a long-standing important commercial and social hub in Kyiv. The square is named after the Contracts House (Контрактовий будинок), which was built in the 18th century. But the square has had several names during its history: renamed as Alexander Square from 1869-1919, in honour of the Russian emperor Alexander II; then Red Square, in 1919-1944, in honour of communism (a name that persisted informally into the 1990s); then sometime between 1945 and the 1950s it was renamed back to Contracts Square.

The green building in the centre is a former Greek monastery, now the Greek Orthodox St Catherine's Church.

Taken with a Nikon D40 and a Nikkor AFS DX 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6G II lens, and processed in GIMP and Photoscape.
