5B-DAD Cyprus Airways Hawker Siddeley Trident 1E

            A rare slide from my collection shows this Cyprus Airways Trident ready to depart Manchester's Pier B in 1973 (according to the slide's notation) which would put it as quite new to the airline. Pier C is under construction in the background and that opened in 1974 so the date seems fine.ex 9K-ACF withKuwait Airways it joined BEA in 1972 and went to Cyprus in March 1973. A war on Cyprus in 1974 saw aircraft from the Turkish Air Force strafing Cyprus Airways' aircraft at the civilian Nicosia Airport. Trident 2E 5B-DAB was damaged, 5B-DAC was also damaged but later repaired and returned to British Airways, but 5B-DAE was completely destroyed.
This escapee returned to British Airways in 1977 and there are photos of it with the Cyprus cheatline and a British Airways tail. Alan Lord Collection
