Ein Rotschenkel (Tringa totanus) genießt die Morgensonne auf einem Zaunpfahl

            Sieht man neben den roten Beinen auch den roten Schnabelansatz oder den weißen Keil unter den Flügeln, handelt es sich sicher um Rotschenkel.
Rotschenkel gehören zu den Watvögeln, die auch Limikolen genannt werden.
Ein ausgewachsener Rotschenkel wird bis 30 cm groß. 
Sie überwintern im Mittelmeerraum oder in Zentral- bis Westafrika. Bei uns leben sie ab April in Sumpfgebieten oder auf Feuchtwiesen. Dort brüten sie in kleinen Nistmulden auf dem Boden.
