60163, “Tornado”, an LNER Peppercorn class 'A1' steam locomotive, is seen crossing the Neath River Swing Bridge on the Swansea and District Line working the 08:09 (1Z20) Bristol Temple Meads to Tenby Pathfinder Railtours “The Pembroke Coast” Charter. The swing bridge spans 118 metres and now serves freight and occasional TfW passenger services on the Swansea District Line. The opening facility has hardly been used, the last time in 1956 for test purposes only. The swing bridge is now welded so that it is permanently shut.

Fascinating, is the rusty hulk on the mud banks. The old lightship, LV72, was built in 1903 by John Crown & Sons of Sunderland for Trinity House and was one of two Light Vessels that saw service on D Day carrying the name "JUNO". The ship marked a safe passage through a minefield for the landing craft on route to the invasion beaches. She was sold out of service in 1973 to Steel Supply Co in Neath for scrap and somehow has survived being broken up on the mud banks of the River Neath after decades of neglect: - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightvessels_in_the_United_Kingdom
