            HI990, a McDonnell Douglas DC-9-83, was about to launch from runway 10 at Princess Juliana International Airport at Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten. 

It was operated by Pan Am World Airways Dominicana, C. x A. of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The sunbathers on Maho Beach were about to experience an aural assault as the MD-83's Pratt & Whitney JT8Ds let loose a ground shaking roar.
