Greyhound 1968 Santa Clarita (MCI MC-7)

Greyhound Lines MCI MC-7 Super 7 Scenicruiser historic vehicle #1968 at Santa Clarita, California, on display with the Centennial Tour.

This durable and comfortable motorcoach is an enlarged 40-foot-long 3-axle version of the MC-5, which was 35 feet long and had only 2 axles. The MC-7 replaced the GMC PD-4501 Scenicruiser in long-distance Greyhound service, while the MC-5 was used for shorter routes. The heavy MC-6 with a 12-cylinder engine was originally intended as the successor to the Scenicruiser, but it was too wide (102") and was relegated to local service. All the other Greyhound motorcoaches on the road were only 96" wide, though Continental Trailways tried out the wide Eagle 7 that failed just as badly as the MC-6.

It wasn't until 1985 that Greyhound introduced long-distance nationwide 102" service with the MCI 102A3 (MC-10), which replaced the MC-6 and MC-7.

Note this MC-7 is registered to Greyhound based in Phoenix, ICC-MC-1515. Greyhound was based in Chicago until 1970, when they moved to Phoenix; they would move to Dallas in 1987, which is Greyhound's current headquarters.
