Road (trail) to Everest: Thamserku, Nepal 1977 (No.8 in a series)

            On the day of our first clear views of major peaks in the Khumbu Himal along the trail beyond Namche Bazar (see No.6 in Nepal album) :
 - Thamserku (aka Tramserku) 6.608 m (21,680 ft.) with those razor-cut ridges.
 - the Phunki Glacier occupying the valley between Thamserku and Kang Taiga peak (off-picture to the left)
Prayer flags flutter from battered buildings in the village, which is either Phunki or Trashinga. Fog is already creeping in during the middle of the day.

I took these photos on a trekking holiday over 40 years ago from London via Kathmandu, Nepal (see my Nepal album) for a flight to Lukla where the only road-trail begins for most trekkers.
The route follows the steep-sided valley of the Dudh Kosi River, alternatively  crossing the river in its gorge then along bench lands and through scattered Nepali and Sherpa villages.
