Mr and Mrs Whopper Swan

            Whooper swans (cygnus cygnus) spend most of their time in subarctic waters of the Northern Hemisphere, where they breed. Powerful in flight, they migrate further south each winter in large flocks, flying hundreds and sometimes thousands of miles. Those which arrive in Ireland and Britain come from Iceland. They announce their presence in the estuaries and wetlands where they settle with a deep honking sound.

A couple of interesting facts:
1.   they are the natiional bird of Finland
2.  couples pair for life
3.  considered to be the heaviest bird in flight
4.  fly are great altitudes, up to 8,000 ft
