            Red pandas (ailurus fulgens) live in the mountains of Nepal, central China and northern Myanmar (Burma) in rainy, high-altitude temperate forests and tropical forests. A solitary animal, they are mainly active from dusk to dawn. During the day, they are largely sedentary.

As indicated in the photo, bamboo consists of the greater part of their diet. Nevertheless, they will also eat small mammals, eggs, birds, insects, flowers and berries. Because they are only able to digest a quarter of the bamboo they eat, like their larger cousins, the great panda, they need to get through a great deal, as much as 20,000 leaves a day.

They are listed as Endangered because the wild population is estimated at fewer than 10,000 mature individuals. Through habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and inbreeding depression, it continues to decline.
