            New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) R11/34 no. 8011 is the lead motor on a Brooklyn-bound BMT 10 train seen approaching Seneca Ave Station on the BMT Myrtle Avenue Line on November 18, 1967. Ten R11 cars were originally built by Budd in 1949; they were intended to be part of a 400-car order but the remainder of the order was cancelled due to the cancellation of the Second Avenue Subway project. The cars were novel in many ways, being the first stainless steel R-type cars built for the subway, and including many new features that would be incorporated into subsequent cars. 

The cars were overhauled in-house in 1964-1965 under contract R34, among other things including upgrades to make them compatible to operate with other SMEE equipment.
