Palazzo della Civiltà del Lavoro - a photo on Flickriver

            Mussolini had the idea to create a futuristic city at 3 km. from Rome as entrance to the Worldexhibition of Rome in 1942. Because of war, plans were unfinished except of 2 Palazzos. This one is dedicated to the Culture of Labour and has "the square Colosseum" as nickname.
Years later the plans of architect Piacentini were continued for the Olympic games of Rome in 1960. Nowadays the neighbourhood contains great office and administrative buildings,  wide avenues and some nice examples of modern architecture.
The whole area speaks of the grandeur in which Mussolini saw his new world and is a nice contrast with the center of ancient Rome.
