Yumarque Soaring. Turkey Vulture, Carthartes aura, Paracas, Peru

            So I biked a bit into the desert south of Paracas, parked the d****d inefficient instrument and set out on a hike into the desert. Believe you me: the word says it all.
A couple of hours - drinking water is a great help - brought me to the seaside... Or rather to rocks and cliffs high about the Pacific, perhaps 80 or so metres.
Anything to see? Sure! Yours truly always finds something to show and tell!
Here it is: in the inset you can see how I first saw it from a distance. Then I stealthily - sometimes on all-fours - made my way closer. Really an amazing bird, this Turkey Vulture, Cathartes aura! Startling it, I couldn't get closer, but Olymp did a good job.
Cathartes, of course, is for 'Cleaner', and that's what these flying beasts do. I saw lots of skeletons in the desert of their eaten prey. The 'aura' is for a native word for the Bird: aurouá. What it exactly means I don't know.
But the hike back under the blazing Sun was worth it all!
