Falling Autumn. Gaasperplaspark, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

            It's Autumn. 
The Sun barely rises above the tree tops of the Gaasperplaspark, and there's not much light. In any case, not enough light to generate green chlorophyll in tree leaves. It's not the chill but rather the lack of light that triggers trees to draw from their foliage the foodstuffs still there. 
As green chlorophyll diminishes, the other color pigments such as carotenes and anthocyanins gain prominence and are no longer masked by vivid green. And this is what we see.
Soon those leaves will fall but not until 'corky' cells have grown across their bases, thus insulating twigs from open wounds: loss of water and nutrients and open to infections.
Then Winter will be upon us all.
