            Orchis est un genre d'orchidées (famille des Orchidaceae) comprenant plusieurs espèces d'orchidées européennes sauvages terrestres; ce genre, créé par Linné en 1753.
Les orchidées sauvages (Orchis spp.) comptent de nombreuses espèces terrestres en Europe même si certaines ont été classées dans d'autres genres au fil du temps. Le nom latin vient du grec ancien órkhis qui signifie "testicule" ce qui n'a rien d'étonnant lorsqu'on regarde la forme particulièrement suggestive des tubercules réunis par 2 voire 3 !

Wild orchids (Orchis spp.) have many terrestrial species in Europe even if some have been classified in other genera over time. The Latin name comes from the ancient Greek órkhis which means "testicle" which is not surprising when you look at the particularly suggestive shape of the tubers gathered by 2 or even 3 !!
