Under Restoration: Former Darwen Corporation Transport - 40 JTF218F - Leyland Titan PD2/47 - East Lancs

            New to the tiny Darwen Corporation Transport(40) in 04/1968 as a closed top vehicle, this smart PD2 has also served with Borough of Blackburn Transport and Kelvin Scottish. It was converted by Kelvin Scottish(1999) in 1993. It then went to work for Mac Tours on Edinburgh sightseeing work. It is seen here on display at the former East Lancashire Coachbuilders factory, Whitebirk Industrial Estate, Whitebirk Drive, Blackburn, at a bus rally on 02/07/2006. If I remember correctly there had been a road run from Whinfields, Haslingden. Tours of the factory were also available. East Lancashire Coachbuilders were founded in Blackburn in 1934 however the company went into administration for a short while in 08/2007, before being bought by Darwen Group and performed a complicated reverse takeover with Optare when its parent purchased the company in 2008. This site and business was later closed in 2012, however this PD2A has survived and is now with Stantons, Stoke,-on-Trent, and painted in a smart red livery. Sister 39 has also been preserved and looks smart in its Darwen livery. Darwen corporation was merged with Blackburn Corporation Transport, becoming Borough of Blackburn Transport, under local government reorganisation on 01/04/1974. I have posted a photo of 39 along with this batch of photos. This was just by chance, honest!
