St Botolph, Lullingstone, - a photo on Flickriver

            St Botolph, Lullingstone, Kent. There has been a Christian place of worship near this spot since Roman times , when Lullingstone Villa just across the road, is known to have had a chapel. There has been a substantial church building on the actual site since the 15th century . This early church replaced a hermit cell. The rather starkly white 18th century rendered porch was contributed by Percyvall Hart IV, one of a number of benefactors from the family at Lullingstone Castle. Descendants of the same family ( now Hart-Dyke) are still in residence and closely involved with this church today.

Although it is an 'estate church' attached to Lullingstone Castle, this is also very much a parish church. It is well-maintained and very welcoming. Detailed notes by the late George Macknelly are available to buy in the church and I have relied heavily on these for much of the information on the St Botolph's set of pictures.
