19th century well inscription - a photo on Flickriver

            Inscription from 1843 Becket's Well, Northampton, a 19th century memorial erected at the spring from which Thomas à Becket is, according to local legend, said to have drunk on his flight from Northampton castle in 1164. Tried for 'defiance of royal authority' ( he had refused to agree with the king) Becket fled to Flanders but returned later and was murdered in Canterbury cathedral in 1170.
