WMPTE 893L, Birmingham Road, Lichfield, 1971

            An eclectic mix of contemporary road traffic at the junction Birmingham Road and St John Street, Lichfield in 1971.

Now part of the huge WMPTE fleet, 893(L) an ex Walsall Corporation, AEC Regent V is en route for its hometown. Behind 893(L), Green Bus Company's TNX456 draws up. 

TNX456 was a Willowbrook bodied Leyland PD2 that had been acquired by GBC from Stratford Blue in 1967. New in 1956, TNX456 only had a couple of years service ahead of it at the time of this photograph. 893(L) didn't fair much better, new in 1961, and being withdrawn from traffic in January 1976. ...A scrapyard fate awaited both buses. 

Aside of the buses, my eye is drawn to the equally old, pale green Ford 100E Prefect rounding the bend from St John Street. The couple inside the Shropshire registered car are about the pass the town's railway station on the right.
