I have been evaluating the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ70 camera. It's lens has a 60 times zoom range, starting from a fairly wide angle. It is light weight and takes good pictures across its full angle zoom angular coverage. 

This photo is pretty good for a point and shoot bridge camera. It's not as perfect as an image taken by a Canon 100-400mm II lens on a full size Canon body!! However it is very small. That and the very light weight make it easy to carry. 

It appears to be good enough for bird watchers to capture and identify bird images.
