Spirit Island Splendor in Monochrome

            Maligne Lake, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada

Spirit Island is considered sacred to the indigenous people who lived in the area. Apparently, no one lived in the immediate area year-round, but they came in the warmer months to hunt and to worship.

This is my third upload from my 15-minute stay at this wondrous spot. I mentioned previously that I'd probably get around to a B&W treatment of the scene, so I made good on my threat. This is a Pano combining four photos using my 35mm lens, and it's a different set of photos from my previous uploads.

It was amazing how quickly the scene changed in the fifteen minutes I was here (that's all that's allowed on the cruise here) and how quickly it changed after leaving. It was nearly completely clouded over when I arrived, but the clouds immediately began to dissipate. They never totally disappeared but it briefly became mostly sunny, and within minutes after leaving, it became completely "socked in," with heavy rain.

Anyway, as I said before, I consider this scene to be among a very few sights that are at the top of my list for grandeur and beauty.

Yippee. :-( It appears my country just elected a racist criminal, traitor and rapist as president. So proud. Party of Lincoln? Ridiculous. This vote is absolutely a repudiation of democracy. And speaking of Lincoln, in his first public address, he said this country would never be destroyed by forces outside the country. So, he insisted, we would last forever--or die by suicide. We've just elected to put a gun to the heart of what we have always strived to be . . . and pulled the trigger.
