            Esta gran escultura de hierro (Mataro 1998), que recuerda las imágenes de las pinturas rupestres, es obra de Josep Maria Rovira Brull. Está situada en la Puerta Layetana, en medio de una gran rotonda en la entrada de Mataró, viniendo de Barcelona. Se ha convertido en el nuevo icono de la ciudad. Tiene una altura de 34 metros y pesa 38 toneladas.
Según el autor, Rovira-Brull, Laia L´Arquera recoge el espíritu de las culturas prehistóricas y representa la unión del hombre con la tierra. Tierra i naturaleza fértil, maternal y al tiempo terrible cuando se siente agredida. Es la diosa madre capaz de engendrar y generar vida y garantizar, así, la pervivencia de la tribu. Laia, diosa del cosmos y los cinco elementos; Laia tierra, agua, fuego, aire y Laia quintaesencia.

Su atributo, el arco, hace referencia a la diosa griega Artemisa, hija de Zeus y Leto y hermana gemela de Apolo. Cuenta el mito que ayudó a su madre en el parto de su hermano gemelo, Apolo. En la mitología romana se asimila a Diana, diosa de la caza y protectora de la naturaleza, y a Selene, la luna.
