Kinder - a photo on Flickriver

            Kinder is a sweet two year old kitty who came to the vet because of a swollen toe.  The doctors are treating it like an injury - giving her antibiotics and recommending "bedrest" which is why she's in a cage in one of our boarding rooms.  

Gee-whiz information:  Very rarely, the swelling in a toe can be cancer and even more rarely, it can be a tumor secondary to a metastasizing lung cancer called Feline lung-digit syndrome.   It may seem strange to take your cat to the vet because of a swollen toe and have them recommend a chest x-ray but it does happen on very rare occasions.  It happened to an employee's cat and her swollen toe was connected to lung cancer.  After removing the toe and chemo - which is just - pill for cats - she has been in remission for well over a year.

Kinder is so young that her inexplicable toe swelling is probably just that - an inexplicable toe swelling.  If it doesn't respond to symptomatic treatment then the doctors will probably recommend further diagnostics like taking an FNA, biopsying the mass and possibly taking chest x-rays.
