Bunquers a Empuries / Empuries bunkers

            IN ENGLISH BELOW THE LINE

A la bonica zona costanera d'Empuries, davant les ruines de l'antiga Emporion i Emporiae, hi ha unes altres restes historiques molt més modernes, bunquers de defensa de costes del s. XX.

En un principi jo pensava que dataven de la postguerra franquista, per evitar un desembarcament al·liat (com els que hi ha, molt més grans, entorn La Clota i Montgó). 

Però crec que es tracta de bunquers republicans per a contrarrestar un hipotetitc desembarc feixista durant la guerra civil. Crec que en total n'hi ha tres, i obviament molt poc haurien pogut fer. Però en tot cas, aquest esta ben situat, amb la espitllera no mirant a mar, sino d'esquitllada cap a la platja del Rec, de forma que la ametralladora hauria batut els flancs de qualsevol bot que s'acostes a la platja, protegint-se alhora del foc directe de la flota enemiga.

At first I thought they dated from the early Franco era, to protect the area from an Allied landing (like the much larger ones around La Clota and Montgó that are sure from that period).

But I think these are spanish republican bunkers to counteract a hypothetical fascist landing during the civil war. I think there are three in total, and obviously very little they could have done. But in any case, this one is well located, with the embrassure not facing the sea, but directly towards the El Rec beach, so that the mg would have hit the flanks of any boat approaching the beach, protected the same time from the direct fire of the enemy ships.
