"Macho"... és femella? / A female condor named "macho"?

Ens varen presentar aquest gegentí còndor dels Andes (vultur gryphus) com a "Macho" (així amb accent francès). Però pel que he vist, sembla clarament una femella adulta: li manca l'abultament tipic sobre el cap, el plomatge és clarament adult, i té els ulls vermells. Com és evident que els cuidadors del parc hi entenen bastant més que jo, de voltors, ha de tractar-se d'una broma.

El condor dels Andes és l'ocell volador més gros del món, arribant a fer 3,3 m. de punta a punta. Només el superen (però pesen menys) els albatros viatgers i alguns pelicans, amb 3.5 m.

This gigantic Andean condor (vultur gryphus) was presented to us as named "Macho" (with a French accent). But for what I have seen, it seems clearly it is an adult female: it lacks the typical caruncle on the head, the plumage is clearly adult, and has red eyes. As it is clear that park carers know about vultures a lot more than myself, this name it must be a joke.

The Andean condor is the largest flying bird in the world, reaching 3,3 m. in wingspan. It's only surpassed (but they weigh less) by the wandering albatros and some pelicans, with 3.5 m. in wingspan.

Seen in the "Donjon des Aigles", in the Beaucens castle.
