Last shot before heading for the bus

            This was such a monumental experience for me in a number of ways. Back in December 2004 I was preparing to move to England from Alaska (job related). I wanted some sun before moving so I went to Playa del Carmen, Yucatan, Mexico for a few days. One evening I was walking through town (Playa was a very sleepy fishing village back then) and saw signs for a fashion show. I checked it out - it was quite entertaining and not very high tech. There were some lovely models but one really caught my eye (I love brown hair and brown eyes). I took a few shots of her during the show; after it was over I asked if it was ok to get some more shots. Yes, of course, she said. This is how I met Zanieb. She is of Moroccan or Tunisian decent living in Belgium and was traveling through Mexico and took part in the show just for fun. We shot for a little bit in the bar. I told her I would love to shoot with her in the morning - she said yes, but .... she was catching a bus early but she was interested in shooting. We ending up meeting on the beach around 6 a.m. It was bright and hot already. Zanieb looked stunning - and she attracted a crowd of fisherman that followed us around. We shot for about 20 minutes before we went to the bus station. What a blast!

Zanieb was one of the very first women I asked to shoot with - I was scared to death to ask her. If she had said no I probably would have been crushed.

I can't remember what camera I was using back then (a Canon D30?); I was just transitioning to digital and didn't care for it at first. I had not heard of RAW files so I shot everything in JPEG. When I took the photos in for processing I prints and a disk. We were doing some house cleaning yesterday and I ran across the disk. What a lucky find!
