5051, King's Sutton, January 1980

            GWR 4-6-0 No. 5051 DRYSLLWYN CASTLE approaches King's Sutton heading The Sunset railtour, comprising the  Great Western Society vintage GWR carriages. The train ran from Paddington to Stratford-upon-Avon, steam-hauled from Didcot on 26th January 1980. This was the final mainline trip that used the GWS vintage stock.

Built in May 1936 at Swindon Works, 5051 was delivered to Landore shed (Swansea) bearing the name Drysllwyn Castle, but was renamed Earl Bathurst just 18 months later.  It was transferred to Neath in June 1961, then Llanelly in February 1963, and was withdrawn from service in May of that year. It was sold for scrap to Woodham Brothers, Barry, from where it was purchased for preservation in March 1969.
