            Metamorphoses Book I: Zeus and Io
The sculpture reproduces the head of a young woman with two horns on her forehead representing Io. From the early Hellenistic time this iconography was appreciated both for the assimilation of Io to Isis and because Io was mother of Epaphus founder of dynasties. For these reasons similar sculptures of Io were used as model s for the portraits of Ptolemaic princesses
