Green Tiger Beetle - a photo on Flickriver

Green Tiger Beetle

            We only just broke double figures in the temperature department today and it was blowing a gale, so I was pleasantly surprised to see these out and about - and so many, in various shades of green. The main path through the sheltered conifer woodland of Tayport Heath is sandy in places, a favourite habitat for these. Took this one with DSLR plus 300mm lens - just what I had on at the time and no macro lens with (so cold and windy, I didn't expect to see any insects), but soon reverted to Pentax Optio W10 as I managed to get very close to them.
