Avro Lancaster PA474 - a photo on Flickriver

            On this day, 81 years ago: Bombing of Braunschweig 
The Royal Air Force bombed Braunschweig as part of Operation Hurricane with 233 Lancaster bombers. 
The following firestorm destroyed more than 90% of the city. 

Within 24 hours, the RAF dropped 10.000 tonnes of bombs during Operation Hurricane. This was the highest bomb load dropped in one day during the entire World War II.
