Kodak Gold 200 Trial - a photo on Flickriver

            Igor Kirilovski a Flickr friend from Ukraine has been getting good results with Kodak Gold 200, a film I had previously rejected due to the number of critical reviews I'd read online. He encouraged me to give it a try as it was a comparatively cheap consumer film which could give good quality results. I managed to buy 10 rolls for £40 from 7dayshop which I thought was pretty good and set out during the recent good weather to see what transpired. Here are a few samples from my first two rolls.

To my eye these pictures look like postcards from the Fifties or Sixties. The views are certainly postcard type shots. I love the results. The colours wouldn't suit every subject or situation but the retro look I think suits these scenes.

I was also trying out a new processor, Exposure Film Lab. I had asked them to concentrate on retaining detail and scan to a neutral palette. When I first saw the scans I thought they looked terrible but they were very flexible and as a result of the way they were scanned I was able to put my own stamp on them, so I am delighted with them and will certainly use them again. These colours are a bit "in your face" but I've seen some beautiful pastel wedding and portrait shots from Kodak Gold 200, so it would appear to be a versatile film with different results according to the way it is scanned.
