IMG_5247-0(W) Golden Flying Snake (Chrysopelea ornata)

            Location: Malay Peninsula
Toxicity: Mildly venomous (in general no medical significant on human) however there are a few isolated cases.
Also known as Ornate Flying Snake or Ornate Tree Snake.

Chrysopelea ornata is a colubrid snake found in both South and Southeast Asia. Like other snakes from  genus Chrysopelea, it has the capability to glide from tree canopy (higher branches)  to lower branches either to escape from predators or to hunt for food (lizards, flying geckos etc). 

In general Chrysopelea ornata has two major colour forms:
i) C. ornata ornata (Shaw, 1802) from Southern India and Sri Lanka has greenish yellow or pale green and red spots on the dorsal area
ii) C. ornata  ornatissima (Werner, 1925) from South East Asia (Thailand, Peninsula Malaysia,  Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and the Philippines). Those from SEA do not exhibit the red spots/flower pattern.
