The Built Environment, Shoeburyness, Essex, England.

            Barge Pier (built 1909), until recent years this was strictly off limits at the MoD 'Old Ranges'.
It is said to be the location for the unloading of Britain's first atomic bomb to the AWE (Atomic Weapons Establishment) site in 1952. Now privately owned with no public access.

Beyond the pier (a mile offshore) are the rusting remains of a 2500 tonne Phoenix concrete caisson aka Mulberry Harbour made for the WW2 'D' Day invasion of 6th June 1944.  
The caissons were in the process of being towed out to sea by tugs from the River Crouch when they broke free and sprang a leak, later causing them to be scuttled in the Thames estuary.
Today they are a cause of much concern as an increasing amount of people choose to walk (low tide) or swim out to them, often become stranded.
