Bournemouth Pier at dusk - a photo on Flickriver

            The current pier descends from the earliest pier of 1856 with later buildings designed by Eugenius Birch. 

The new theatre was completed in 1960 and designed by Elizabeth Scott at which point the pier was also supported in concrete. 

The shoreward building was completed in 1981 and the third building on the site. The original was opened in 1880 and a second in the 1920s. The shoreward building hints at the then new 'post modern' style and includes the amusements at street level, the bar/ restaurant now named Aruba upstairs which was once called the Show Bar while the basement level includes the public toilets and stores.
