La fuente de San Justo o La fuente de las 3 caras

La Fuente de Sant Just está situada en la plaza de del mismo nombre, en Barcelona, es una tranquila plaza con mucha historia.

Cuenta la leyenda que la creo Joan Fiveller, el cual en 1367 o en 1427, se encontraba cazando por los bosques de Collcerola encontró una manantial de agua que canalizó hasta ese lugar, que estaba cercano a su palacio. La fuente del siglo XIV continúa funcionando hoy día. Fue la primera fuente pública importante de la ciudad y es la más antigua de Barcelona.

La antigua fuente era de construcción gótica, la cual se transformó en 1831 durante la época neoclásica.

En lo alto de un lateral de la fuente se aprecia un halcón atrapando una perdiz, en honor a las cacerías de su creador.

La fuente tiene tres grifos incrustados en las figuras de unas máscaras de piedra, esta procedente de la antigua cantera de Monjuïc. La pila es también de piedra de la misma procedencia.

En el Frontis hay una imagen de San Justo sosteniendo con una mano la palma del mártir. Se aprecian también dos escudos, el del rey y el de la ciudad entre ambos esta la escena de caza del halcón y la perdiz.

Originalmente en esta plaza se situaba el cementerio parroquial que daba a la fuente, en el año 1831 se prohíben este tipo de necrópolis dentro de la ciudad y la fuente fue restaurada y se añadió la balaustrada de terracota que tiene encima. Es de una austero estilo románico, y las plantas que cuelgan de ella le da al lugar un especial encanto, en donde en tiempos remotos era costumbre hacer funciones teatrales.

La última restauración se produjo en 2003.

The Sant Just Fountain is located in the square of the same name, in Barcelona, it is a quiet square with a lot of history.

The 14th century fountain continues to function today. It was the first important public fountain in the city and is the oldest in Barcelona.

The old fountain was of Gothic construction, which was transformed in 1831 during the neoclassical era.

At the top of one side of the fountain you can see a falcon catching a partridge, in honor of its creator's hunts.

The fountain has three taps embedded in the figures of some stone masks, this one from the old Monjuïc quarry. The font is also made of stone from the same origin.

In the Frontis there is an image of Saint Justus holding the palm of the martyr with one hand. Two coats of arms can also be seen, that of the king and that of the city, between the two is the hunting scene of the falcon and the partridge.

Originally, the parish cemetery that overlooked the fountain was located in this square. In 1831, this type of necropolis was prohibited within the city and the fountain was restored and the terracotta balustrade above it was added. It is of an austere Romanesque style, and the plants that hang from it give the place a special charm, where in remote times it was customary to hold theatrical performances.

The last restoration occurred in 2003.
