ARRIVO IN CITTA' DAL PONTE DELLA LIBERTA'

Tra le infinite bellezze di Venezia, la Serenissima, rischia quasi di passare inosservato il grande Ponte della Libertà che, in realtà, è molto di più che una semplice infrastruttura. È una vera e propria opera d’ingegneria che, collegando l’isola alla terraferma grazie a un cordone lungo 3.850 metri, ha cambiato il volto stesso della città. Il primo ponte ad essere inaugurato, nel 1846, fu quello ferroviario: un progetto caldeggiato dall’Imperatore Ferdinando I d’Austria per dotare Venezia di un collegamento su rotaia verso Milano, nel periodo in cui entrambi i centri appartenevano al regno Lombardo-Veneto.

ARRIVING INTO THE CITY FROM THE BRIDGE OF LIBERTY

Among the infinite beauties of Venice, the Serenissima, the great Bridge of Liberty almost risks going unnoticed. In reality, it is much more than just a simple infrastructure. It is a true feat of engineering that, connecting the island to the mainland via a 3,850-meter-long cordon, changed the very face of the city. The first bridge to be inaugurated, in 1846, was a railway bridge: a project championed by Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria to provide Venice with a rail link to Milan, during the period when both cities belonged to the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia.
