IL PORTICO SOTTO IL MUNICIPIO NELL'ORA BLU

Il Palazzo del Municipio fu progettato nel 1875 dall’architetto Giuseppe Bruni. Lo stile delle facciate è caratterizzato da un misto di stile parigino e manierismo germanico.
Il Palazzo inizialmente non piacque al popolo triestino che lo soprannominarono palazzo “Cheba”, ovvero palazzo “Gabbia”, per la forma che ricorda una enorme gabbia per gli uccelli, ma anche palazzo “Sipario”, poiché con la sua mole imponente riusciva a nascondere i ruderi e le brutture delle case della Cittavecchia che si trovavano alle sue spalle. Il piano terra è realizzato da archi a tutto sesto che riproducono l’idea di un porticato, mentre ai piani superiori si aprono numerose finestre divise in bifore e trifore.

THE PORTICO UNDER THE TOWN HALL IN THE BLUE HOUR

The Town Hall was designed in 1875 by the architect Giuseppe Bruni. The style of the facades is characterized by a mix of Parisian style and Germanic Mannerism.
The Palace initially did not please the people of Trieste who nicknamed it the “Cheba” palace, or “Cage” palace, due to its shape that resembles an enormous birdcage, but also the “Curtain” palace, because with its imposing mass it managed to hide the ruins and ugliness of the houses of the Cittavecchia that were behind it. The ground floor is made of round arches that reproduce the idea of a portico, while on the upper floors there are numerous windows divided into double and triple lancet windows.
