D1041 at Bescot Open Day - a photo on Flickriver

            I've previously posted some colour photos taken at Bescot Open Day on 9 October 1988, but have recently "re-discovered" some b/w shots I took at the same event. This is preserved Class 52 no D1041 "Western Prince" in Bescot yard.

D1041 was built at Crewe and was new in October 1962. It was withdrawn from Laira (LA) in February 1977 and passed quickly into preservation, being among the first locos purchased for Bury Transport Museum, the forerunner of the East Lancs Railway. According to the ELR website it has not worked on the railway since 2004, being currently under long-term overhaul.
