Tinnis Castle (12)

            This is one of those massive sections of masonry in the bailey.  It is reasonable to assume that it can only have come from either the keep; a substantial ancillary building or the enceinte wall around the bailey.  Of those three, we can probably rule out the enceinte wall based on the fact that there is an angle in it as well as a relieving arch, which must once have supported the weight of stonework over a window.  There was a stone-built ancillary building quite close to here, and had it been a chapel for example, it might have had walls as solid as this, but I still tend to think that if flew here from the keep! 

Archaeologists being cautious folk and not given to flights of fancy, describe the building that occupied the east side of the courtyard as "Residential Buldings", but I think we can safely refer to as having been a keep or substantial rectangular tower.
