Kilchurn Castle (10) - a photo on Flickriver

            This view shows the courtyard from approximately the same angle as the previous picture, with the old keep to the right and the inner and outer entrance doors below it.  

The thing that looks like a crashed flying saucer is, in many ways, the most interesting thing to be seen in the castle!  Nearly as interesting as a crashed flying saucer!  It is the entire section of corbelling, all four courses, from the north-west turret of the old keep.  HTF did it get there, and upside down at that? I hear you think!   

The answer is that it was blasted there, not by the destructive hand of man, but by the destructive hand of nature.  I was hit by a lightening bolt during a great storm in 1769, and came crashing down from the top corner of the keep directly behind, in a single piece.  Now you know why they put lightening conductors on tall buildings such as churches!
