Lentils over Everest! - a photo on Flickriver

            As well as some fairly neat stacked lenticular clouds caused by the jet-stream getting deflected upwards over the top of Mt Everest, this photo also shows the geology quite well - the mix of igneous (light coloured) and sedimentary (dark coloured) rock in Nuptse and the bands (dykes) of leucogranite ( a granite with few dark minerals) that have flowed up through lines of weakness into the sedimentary rock above, can be seen clearly.  Also clearly visible is the Yellow Band on Everest, which consists of metamorphosed limestone (marble to you and me).
