That was quite unexpected, but very enjoyable getaway weekend at the Texas South Coast. The Texas Lighthouse, a place where I stayed, was designed very much in the sea/ocean vibes with all the tastful decorations from artwall to furnishings to even such small details like curtain hangers; a perfect mix of antique, vintage and modern. It truly made me feel as if I was on my beach holidays. It was located in the enclave of bungalows built in the mid 1940’s and named for the Texas Lighthouse painted on the door panels of the exterior front and back doors.

To me visiting a place is to feel it on many levels that include rarely restaurants (I am vegan, and I have my own philosophy of feeding my body), shops ( it's such a waste of time and money after all when there's so much to discover) or bars ( I know better ways to enjoy my life), but often Nature, local art, important culturally speaking sites. And yes, meeting locals is essential, too.

Before leaving for Rockport, I researched what I could possible include into my itinerary, and I was excited to have found two exhibitions on display at the Rockport Center for the Arts at that time: a solo show "Senderos del Desierto" for Salvador Rodriguez depicting the landscapes of the Texas Big Bend and the desert region of Texas and northern Mexico, and colorful plein-air oli paintings by June Ainsworth "On the Waterfront" capturing the beauty and serenity of the Texas coast.

I took this self-portrait before going to see the local art.
