Stepping into the unknown... - a photo on Flickriver

            This is one of those shots that i've had in my mind for a couple of months now, and have been patiently waiting for all the different elements to come together. 
Firstly there is the tide times, and catching high tide during daylight, but not during the day!
This little bit of Torquay beach is very busy when the sun is out, and getting that 'empty' feel to the scene would be impossible before about 8pm.
Then there is the tide height, I desperately wanted the steps to go into the water, so after studying the tide tables I set off some 6 weeks ago to take my long planned shot only to find it pouring down with rain...

Fast forward to the first week in July, a football match on the TV meant the crowds stayed away, tide height was at it highest for the next 3 months, and cloud cover was not too bad, bingo, I had finally got the shot that I wanted for so long!

It took several attempts though, as having my tripod (and me) perched on the bottom steps of one of these huts, the motion of the waves against the wood was causing small vibrations through the camera, and the first couple of attempts were not as sharp as I hoped for.
This final shot was taken at about 9pm just as the light was starting to give up, a bit like my shoes and socks which were soaked through!
