Eldridge street synagogue (explored)

            The interiors of the Eldridge street synagogue, Lower East Side, Manhattan, New York. 1887.  It was designed in Moorish revival style, Gothic revival, and Romanesque revival by the Herter brothers, Roman Catholic architects who immigrated from Germany and specialized in the design of apartment buildings. The Eldridge Street Synagogue was their first house of worship. The building undertook restoration in 2007.  A stunning stained glass window designed by artist Kiki Smith and architect Deborah Gans was added in 2010. This sample demonstrates the use of a new silicone technology that holds the glass together into lustrous, seamless panels.
