No, it's not a factory. It's the National Building Museum, one of the most interesting places in Washington, D.C.

            Although the building was inspired by 16th-century Roman palaces, brick is the primary building material due to its affordability and the Congressional directive that the building be fireproof.  Built between 1882 and 1887, the building served as headquarters of the US Pension Bureau,  It also served as a grand space for social and political events, including inaugural balls, a tradition that began with Grover Cleveland and continues to the present day.

The Judiciary Square Metro Station, seen in the photo, is directly across the street from the entrance to the building.

Paper Models -- incredible collection of 80 paper models from around the world (2016-2018).

Hive -- a 60-foot tall dome built from wound paper tubes (2017).

Icebergs -- fantastic glacial sea of towering icebergs built in the Great Hall (2016).

The Big Maze -- a real wooden maze (60' x 60' x 18') for visitors to explore (2014)
