Farmers & Merchants National Bank Building - Henderson,Texas

            The Farmers & Merchants National Bank Building was built in the early 1900s,I think. I know the bank was in business by 1903. I don't know when it went out of business. Down through the years the building has been home to a variety of businesses.

Two old signs were uncovered during a remodeling project in July of 2016. The first and probably most important was the original Farmers & Merchants National Bank sign chiseled in the cement/concrete on the very top left just below the roof line.It hadn't seen the light of day for decades.

The second sign is a hand painted sign that reads Fishing Tackle,Toys and Housewares. That one stumped the locals....even the most senior of the senior citizens. No one could recall the name of that business and I don't know if they ever figured it out. What is interesting about that partial ghost sign is five layers of bricks were removed before it was discovered. 

The building now serves as the offices for CFG Insurance and both of the old signs have been covered up again. Henderson,Texas. 7.13.2016.
