122-126 Micklegate, York - a photo on Flickriver

            122-126 Micklegate is across the road from our pre-pandemic Friday lunchtime meeting place, The Priory pub. Curtain Up was in No 122 which is now a self-contained building with 17th century panelling upstairs, part of the 17th century staircase to the attic and the 17th century roof. The Old Siam Thai restaurant is No 126. This retains what looks like an earlier roof. The two buildings were rebuilt at different dates but in the 18th century became one house, staying like that another hundred years or so. In the mid 19th century they were split up again. The door in the centre, No 124, leads to a separate address, possibly the place on the first floor which was used by ladies with sewing machines, presumably doing alterations to clothes or curtains, that we see sometimes when we are having lunch in the pub. Since I drew this most of the shops and the swmewing room have changed hands, though the Thai restaurant is still there.
